Together, we can build a strong, supportive community!

Pacific Northwest Seattle Gambian Association (PNWSGA) is a statewide, all-volunteer nonprofit organization serving the Gambian community throughout the State of Washington. The Association does not discriminate against and welcomes individuals of all backgrounds. While its services are open to everyone, the majority of those served are members of the Gambian community.

Our Impact
At the Pacific Northwest Seattle Gambian Association (PNWSGA), our work is rooted in improving the lives of young people and strengthening families across our community. Through consistent engagement, community events, and youth-centered programming, we create spaces where children and youth feel supported, valued, and empowered.
Young people play a vital role in shaping our work. Their experiences often reflect the broader challenges within our communities, helping us identify where support is most needed.
By listening to their voices and responding intentionally, we strive to restore hope, build confidence, and create pathways for growth and opportunity.

We Find & Fund

We understand that many challenges within our community are not always visible. Individuals facing issues such as immigration concerns may hesitate to speak openly or ask for help, even when support is urgently needed.

We actively seek out these unmet needs and identify opportunities to provide assistance, resources, and financial support. By responding with care and discretion, we help individuals and families navigate difficult circumstances, creating meaningful change and transforming lives.

We nurture culture

We believe it is our responsibility to help children develop a strong understanding of, and appreciation, their cultural identity. Gambian children who migrate to the United States at a young age, as well as second-generation youth, are at greater risk of losing touch with their West African heritage, including language, food traditions, history, and values.

Through cultural education, storytelling, and community engagement, we help preserve identity and foster pride. Strong community connections play a vital role in reducing cultural disconnect and ensuring that our children grow up grounded in who they are and where they come from.

We Entertain

Community gatherings play an important role in Gambian culture, bringing people together through shared meals, music, games, and celebration. During events such as our annual Fourth of July Community Celebration, we create welcoming spaces where families can enjoy food, entertainment, and meaningful connection, all in one place.

Our activities often include:

  • 100-meter sprint races
  • Sack races
  • Volleyball
  • Soccer tournaments
  • Face painting for children
  • Musical chairs
  • Bucket balance challenges
  • Bean bag toss
  • Bouncy houses
  • Graduation recognition and certificate presentations

Through these events, we promote joy, healthy competition, family engagement, and a strong sense of community belonging.
